2011 Shooting Stars Development Team

Welcome to the Shooting Stars Developmental Swim Program

A NOTE FROM COACH HOLLIE:

Thank you to all who participated in the Shooting Stars program this year. The assistant coaches and I thoroughly enjoyed working with and getting to know each and every child. Everyone did a terrific job and we saw great improvements. While the kids worked hard, they played hard too and best of all - it was mostly with a smile. Diving and sharks and minnows seemed to be just about everyone's favorite while backstroke and freestyle stations with fins ranked up there too. I give all of the kids a big congratulations on a job well done and I hope to see everyone around during the school year. Please don't hesitate to contact me at Hollie Kenney.

Best,

Hollie

***********************

We’ve had a great Shooting Stars season, and we thank all of the wonderful swimmers for trying their best and having fun! All of us will miss their bright smiles and positive attitudes.

Our meet was a big success! Thank you to the parents and siblings for coming out to cheer on the swimmers. Go to this link for the meet results. Freestyle and backstroke times from both the time trial and the meet are listed, but only time improvements were calculated and noted on the results page. “NT” means “no time” (your child did not swim that particular event). Keep in mind that John Simpson is a meter pool. If you want to convert your child’s time to yards, multiply their time by .9144.

A few notes to the parents:

I will have the Lost & Found bin at my house for the next week or so. Please e-mail me if you need access to it.

If your swimmer did not get a Shooting Stars medal and/or t-shirt, please e-mail me.

Shooting Stars does not have ‘returning family status’, which means that the swimmers from this season do not have a registration advantage for next year. Therefore, please visit this website and watch for announcements in the Ranch Record early next year for 2012 registration information. Registration will likely take place at the beginning of May just like this year.

It’s been a pleasure working with all of you this season!

Thanks,

Janice Panoff
Shooting Stars Coordinator

Shooting Stars Developmental Swim Program Information

This program is designed for the swimmer who is looking for an introduction to competitive swimming without the full commitment of the Steiner Stars Red or Steiner Stars Blue team.

It is NOT SWIM LESSONS. Shooting Stars focuses on the development of competitive swimming skills with emphasis on proper stroke technique in freestyle and backstroke. The coaches will teach breaststroke and butterfly when individual swimmers are ready for that challenge. At the end of the 4-week session, swimmers will be able to measure their improvement at an intra-squad swim meet. Prior swim experience is necessary to enroll in this program.

Equipment needed for the program:

star bullet icon Competitive style swim suit-jammer suit for boys, one piece suit for girls.
star bullet icon Fins-can be bought at Lane 4. Fins with straps around the ankle are not appropriate and will rub blisters on swimmers. No specific brand is required but swimmers need fins that fit snugly around the foot.
star bullet icon Goggles are optional and depends on what your child prefers. Goggles can be bought at Lane 4 as well, but you can also find proper fitting goggles at other places like Academy. Swim masks and snorkels should not be brought to practice.
star bullet icon Swim caps are optional as well. For swimmers with longer hair, swim caps are recommended unless hair is securely fastened.
star bullet icon We provide kickboards and all other equipment needed for practices.
